A Fun Filled Week With Family

June was packed with good times! Our brother-in-law works for a major airline so planned and spontaneous trips out to Colorado happen from time to time throughout the year. This time we got our nephew out here for a full week before the rest of the family joined us at the end of the week for what is becoming an annual tradition of going to Water World in Denver.

French Toast Fun

After a trip to Costco for the weekly essentials, the morning breakfast request was the best of all time: French Toast. Sure, we could have made it for him, but at 10, no reason he can’t make it himself, right? Right!

Day 1: Batter was made ahead of time so we could focus on the hardest part - heat and cook time. It went about as well as you’d expect… the butter hit the pan, I stepped away, and all of a sudden the smell of burnt butter filled the house along with a decent amount of smoke (AIR PURIFIER TO THE RESCUE!). Good learning opportunity for both of us.

Day 2 - 5: Progressively the heat management got better, and he was able to tell when it was the right amount of color on the outside to consider it “done.” Little did we know that he had been planning for what came next the whole week.

Day 6: When Drew’s sister and her fiance came into town for the water park, he woke up early and made sure to have breakfast ready for everyone (along with a curated morning playlist starring “Bar Song” by Shaboozey to get us all pumped for the day). His practice paid off as he cooked the french toast to golden brown perfection.

A Scorcher of a Rockies game

We couldn’t have a visit without a baseball game! It was almost 100 degrees that day, so we decided to spend a little more for shady seats with quick access to A/C, and they were WELL WORTH IT! With the heat and the Rockies’ record this season, the stadium was pretty empty, but we didn't care. We were there for the love of the game. After an early HR by the Rockies, the rest of the game was a pitcher’s duel until the Nationals went ahead late and won the game.

Family Fun

On to a family visit in Colorado Springs next. Nothing but games, a motorcycle ride, a dog the size of a motorcycle, and good times were had. We decided a Jenga tournament was necessary… and of course the 10 year old almost beat all of the adults. He would say he attacked the game with strategy and fearlessness. We would say he was reckless and lucky… it's all perspective, right?

A Splashing Good Time: Water World Finale

The week ended with a big family gathering at Water World. More family joined us, including his little brother and sister, and it turned into a grand reunion. The water park was the perfect place to wrap up our week. We spent the day riding water slides, floating in the lazy river, and splashing in the wave pool. The weather was perfect, the smiles and laughter were nonstop, and it was the perfect way to celebrate our time together.
